At the CCRE Annual Conference, we bring the community together to explore and learn about timely issues related to race and equity in Carroll County and the U.S. The conferences consist of presentations, panel discussions, and group discussions (or “break-out” rooms).

    Marty is grateful to be the Senior Pastor of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Westminster, Maryland.  He holds a BA in psychology, as well as an MSW, M.Div., and D.Min.  He is Senior Adjunct Professor in the doctoral program at Lancaster Theological Seminary, Adjunct Faculty and Field Education Consultant in the McDaniel College Social Work Department, and occasional lecturer at Carroll Community College.  He is involved in a wide range of community and wider church activities, mainly focused on social justice in many forms.  He is a longstanding member of CCRE, the CCPS Equity Council (ETM), the PFLAG Steering Committee, the Carroll County Circle of Caring Homelessness Board, and various organizations that address mental health needs in the community.  He is nearly finished writing a book that is currently entitled “Awakening: A One-Book Anti-Racism Overview for White People.”

    Dr. Roxanna Harlow is a Chicago native and sociology professor at Carroll Community College in Westminster, Maryland where she serves as the Discipline Coordinator of Sociology and the Faculty Coordinator of Diversity Training and Development. As an expert in the areas of race, gender, and social inequality, she’s been published in numerous journals and edited volumes, invited to do presentations for a wide variety of audiences, and recognized for her teaching. Before her work at Carroll, Roxanna was a faculty member at McDaniel College for nine years. She then left to start Higher Learning, Inc., a non-profit organization that, from 2009-2017, provided mostly low-income students of color with out-of-school-time learning experiences including travel abroad. With a passion for social justice and community, Roxanna serves on the board of two local non-profit organizations and is a member of the Carroll County Board of Education's Education that is Multicultural Council.
